                                                                    Madame Julia Bulette 2 Earrings

Madame Julia Bulette, was a very fortunate woman for her time, she made enough money to live in her own cottage. Her home was in Virginia City, Nevada. She was reputed to receive as much as $1,000. per night for her favors. She was well liked by the miners; her generosity and donations to charity earned her a measure of respect and gratitude. She nursed the sick and injured men back to health, fought a smallpox epidemic, fed the poor. In 1867 at the age of 35, Julia was murdered. She was found strangled, shot, suffocated and severely beaten and everything she had was stolen. Her friends gave her the most expensive funeral the city had ever seen and all the saloons closed for the first time in their history. She was allowed a Catholic srvice, but she could not be buried in consecrated soil, due to her profession. She lies in a lonely grave with a wooden marker that reads “Julia”, but her good deeds and kindnesses have made her a legend in Virginia City. A man named John Millian was convicted and hung on Apirl 27, 1868 for the murder of Julia Bulette.

Madame Veronica Baldwin Earrings

Madame Veronica Baldwin was notorious for shooting her cousin, Lucky Baldwin, and her name was splashed across the nation’s headlines from 1883 to 1887. The claim was that her assaulted her (and fathered her child). She shot him when he was assaulting her. Lucky claimed that she was blackmailing him. The next headline she made was when she said her cousin had had her committed to a state mental asylum in California. She moved to Denver in the late 1890’s and opened a business on 2020 Market Street. It was said that Lucky provided her with the money for the venture. Her clientele were wealthy and famous and came by invitation only. A visit to her parlor house was not easily forgotten. When Denver’s Red Light District closed in 1915, she calmly moved to the most fashionable neighborhood, and lived a quiet, dignified life. She never spoke of her past.

Madame Veronica Baldwin Earrings, are 2.5″ long, and made with Antique Copper (non-tarnishing) Findings, Fan Charm Connectors, Engraved Beads, Hook Earwires, and Gold Opal Crystal Beads. Another Designer Original from Jewels Designs Madame Steampunk Jewelry Line. Would look great with that simple black dress, and/or a copper-colored outfit.                                                                                         The Lovell Sister Ensemble

Lil Lovell was the first sister to open a fancy parlor house (house of ill repute) at 2020 Market St in Denver, Colorado, and was the leading madame in this area. She sent for her sister Lois when he business soared. Lois was less experience than her sister. She fell in love with an important businessman, but the situation was hopeless because she could never marry him because of her profession and his notoriety. Feeling Hopelessness, she took a bottle of poison and died. When her love found out what she did he killed himself with a bullet to the head. Things would never be the same for Lil. She died a few years later, leaving an estate of $40,000.00, in the late 1800’s that was consider a huge sum of money!
